The Real Truth About Making Money on the Internet

Are you thinking about starting an online business? Have you already started one and you're not making the money you'd like to? If you answer yes to either of these questions then there are some truths about internet marketing that you need to know.

First of all, "Forget All The Hype" and "Get Rich Quick Schemes" that you read about every day on the internet. It's not going to happen! If you're like me, you get lots of email everyday promising to make you rich overnight. It's entirely possible to make a good living on your computer from the comfort of your home and maybe even someday get rich. But it won't happen overnight. It will take some careful planning, instruction, commitment, and persistence.

Don't believe that you can put your business on complete autopilot and do absolutely nothing and still have money rolling in all the time. There is no free lunch. Internet Marketing is a business and you have to treat it like one. You have to work at it to make it work.

Next, find a good product/products or good affiliate programs to market. And be willing to stay with it for 6 months to a year. A lot of people are just jumping from program to program and never taking the time to really work the program they already have. Then they wonder why they can't seem to get anything to work. It takes time to build a substantial income on the internet, just like anywhere else. So choose your product/program carefully, work it for a while, stay with it and give it time to work.

Again, choose your product/program carefully. Remember, whatever program or product you are marketing must fill a need. There must be a demand for it. If no one wants or needs what you have to offer, no matter how wonderful it is, you won't be able to sell it.

Now, allow me to make a very important point, one that is often over- looked. No matter what kind of business you have, internet or otherwise, you "WILL" have to advertise and promote your business. There is no such thing as purchasing or joining a program, putting up a website, kicking back and watching the money roll in. If no one knows you have a business then no one will buy your product. You have to let people know you are there if you want them to notice you. Internet marketing is like everything else. If you do nothing, you will get nothing. There are many places and ways to advertise on the internet and in other places.

Lastly, remember, you are building a business. And it takes time to build a business that will last. So take some time to learn all you can about internet marketing. The more you learn, the greater your chances for success. Success in internet marketing is just like success in any other venture. It won't just fall in your lap. You have to work at it. Take your time, do your due diligence, learn all you can, don't give up, and success will be yours.

Career Change Success Is Yours If you Follow The Formula

Recent surveys suggest that, given the chance, about four out of 10 people would change career tomorrow and a further two might. The most popular reason given would be to earn more. But others want a new challenge, to do something more fulfilling, or to have a better quality of life. If you are one of these who might, what's stopping you?

Simply stated there are only two things stopping you from making the successful career change you dream of - belief and action. Or in my terms: PMA + SMA = Career Change Success

But everyone goes on about PMA - Positive Mental Attitude, don't they? What does it mean?

To some extent we all have some influence over the things that happen to us. I don't mean to say that we can make everything work out right all of the time, but we can hold an attitude of expecting things to go right.

It also means belief in yourself; that you have the skills and experience; qualities and attributes that will benefit a new employer. The one who wins isn't necessarily the one who can, but the one who thinks he can. So if you are going to make that career change, you must think you can.

Belief in yourself is also about being true to yourself and your core values. It's not about short-term gains, 'acing' interviews or 'finessing' your way into a high-paying job that you've no real hope of holding down. The move you make must be consistent with your core values otherwise you won't achieve that all important career satisfaction. If you get there by the wrong means, you'll probably end up as one of the four in ten again!

So you should start your career change process by being clear in your mind about:

? what you really enjoy doing;

? what makes your work satisfying, great fun, fraught, or dull;

? what you're good at and want to continue doing;

? what's important to you;

? and how your decisions affect those close to you.

You can work out the answers to these questions from my advice on your skills analysis, your contributions and your values - then your career change becomes career reality!

But only if you use the second part of my formula - SMA by which I mean Sustained Meaningful Activity. In other words do the things you need to do, for as long as you need to do them, until the career change you want to achieve becomes career reality.

What are the things you need to do?

? Follow all the advice you can get and be clear that you have the skills and capacity to present a compelling case to a new employer.

? Work out how you will make your case come alive by preparing scenarios and stories that colourfully illustrate how your experience brings value and benefits to the new organization.

? Be prepared for disappointment - you may not get there first time - but stay positive and don't just give up. Move on to the next one right away.

? Build up your network of people who can support, advise and challenge you; most people will be very pleased to help.

? Get your CV or resume updated and reviewed by someone you respect.

? Research potential businesses that may have the right type of opportunity, but are also likely to be consistent with your values.

? Ask questions at interview so you can gauge whether the opportunity is right or simply 'there'.

? Make sure your writing skills are up to the task of producing not only excellent application cover letters, but also carefully crafted target letters for the direct approach to employers.

? Be clear how you can access the 'unadvertised' jobs market, by networking, research and targeting.

? Maintain your confidence and optimism and never quit, give up or give in - you know you can do it, so keep going till you get there.

It will be worth it!

What Some Web Hosts Dont Want You To Know

Many start-up web hosts in their desperate attempt to get hosting business from you have plenty to hide. Here are some of the things they will never tell you. For some start-up web hosts, service does not exist. Low cost or budget web hosting services are the ones most likely to fall under this category. Some will not provide any information about their service while others will proudly announce that they provide 24/7 service. This is quite often not true.

Many of the low-cost web hosts have little experience in web hosting. A good way to find out about the level of service is to get the service telephone number and use it before you sign on. This should tell you a lot about the level of service you should realistically expect from the host you want to use.

The other common truth amongst many web-hosting enterprises is that they lack experience. Ensure before signing up that the company that you are going with has reasonable experience. How long has your host been in business? You do not want to be part of a start -up experiment for an important service.

One other thing you will need to be very careful with when using low cost or budget web hosts, is the fact that some of them are involved in many different businesses and not just web hosting. Ask what other businesses or projects your web host handles before signing up with them. You want a specialist not a generalist whose resources and time are bound to be so stretched that chances of you getting reliable services are very slim indeed.

It is also a fact that some small low cost web hosts do not offer the promised bandwidth. They should not advertise one thing and end up providing something else.

The best way to protect yourself from most of these nasty surprises is to go for a short term contract to begin with. You can for example start off paying on a monthly basis. That way it will be easier to change hosts when you discover something you don't like.

Cheap and Easy Domain Name Registration

Just like any business, your identity is very important. On the World Wide Web, your domain name is your identity. Of course, you can opt for a subdomain name that comes with many free web hosting like http://yourdomain.netfirms.com. But if you are serious about being successful on the Internet, you have to get your own domain name, like http://www.yourdomain.com.

Top 10 reasons to have your own domain name

Please note that all domain names listed in italic are ficticious:
  • It is cheap and easy to get your own domain name (less than $15/year in most cases)
  • You own the name (as long as you pay the annual fee)
  • You are not dependent on one web hosting company to let you use a subdomain, or worse, a subdirectory
  • Your web site promotion effort does not go to waste if you change your web hosting company (because the domain name remains the same regardless of what host you use)
  • The domain name can be optimized to your business, like www.best-used-cars.com
  • Your web site is more professional
  • The domain name is easier to remember. For instance, www.best-used-cars.com rather than www.geocities.com/web/public/business/auto/best-used-cars/
  • It is much easier to sell a web site with its own domain name
  • A good domain name can be an asset
  • It is cheap and easy to get your own domain name (this one is worth repeating)
  • How to register for a domain name

Please note that all domain names listed in italic are ficticious:
  • Think of appropriate name for that suit the theme of your web site. For instance, an online dating service may find domain name like www.loveconnection.com, more desirable than say www.best-used-cars.com
  • Search for domain name availability. Every domain name registrar will provide you with a search tool; although some search tools are better than other. You will have to do a lot of searches because a lot of domain name that you wish to have is probably already owned by someone else (very common).
  • As you come across available domain names that you like, jot them down. Keep searching until you have about 3-5 different domain names to choose from.
  • Choose a domain name and register it at a domain name ICANN Accredited registrar.
  • Other factors to consider

    • Initially, you will want the .com version of your domain name. If your internet business takes off, you may want to consider registering other first-level domains (i.e., .net) of your domain name and perhaps even similar domain names to prevent mistaken identity
    • Use domain name registrar that will register the domain under your name under all contacts information (perhaps with the exception of technical contact). It should be clear that you own the domain name.
    • Use domain name registrar that provide good online account support.
    • Use automatic domain name renewal if you are planning to own the domain name long-term

    Dont Need No Stinking PR?

Almost assuredly you do, especially when your most important external and internal audiences behave in ways that stop you from achieving your organizational objectives.

With that attitude, you could have a long wait before you see community leaders strengthening their bonds with you; customers making repeat purchases; unions bargaining more frequently in good faith; prospects becoming customers; employees beginning to value their jobs; political leaders and legislators starting to think of you as a key player in the business community, and suppliers working hard to expand your relationship.

Lighten up and use public relations in your own best interest, and benefit from a really cost-effective assist to your business, non-profit or association.

And there's another reason to do so. Tough times require tough tactics. Luckily, PR firepower can do for you what it was meant to do - help you achieve your operating objectives by moving those people whose behaviors have the greatest impact on your organization, to actions YOU desire,

You know it's worth it, so give it a shot!

Best place to start is by listing your most important audiences, or "publics," and ranking them according to the impact they have on your enterprise. Let's work on the outside audience at the top of that list.

How aware are you and your colleagues as to how that audience views you? Could there be negative perceptions out there that, inevitably, will morph into behaviors that hurt your organization?

You really can't afford to ignore that possibility.

So get out there and interact with members of that target audience and ask questions. The alternative is to spend a LOT of money on a professional survey. Instead, make the time commitment to do some home-grown research. After all, PR best practice says you should be in regular touch with target audience members anyway, so this interaction is probably long overdue.

Ask questions like "Do you know anything about us? Have you heard anything good or bad about us?" Stay alert to hesitant and evasive responses. Notice any negative undertones? Do inaccuracies crop up? Any misconceptions or rumors that need your attention?

The answers you gather are the fodder for your new public relations goal - i.e., the specific perception to be altered, followed by the behavior change you want.

Which requires that you set a public relations goal aimed at clearing up that misconception or nameless concern, correcting that inaccuracy or untrue belief, or disarming that rumor for good.

Now, what happens to that goal? You select a strategy to get you where you want to be. The choices are few indeed when it comes to perception and opinion. You can create perception where there isn't any, change existing perception, or reinforce it. That's it. You should, however, match your strategy selection to your newly-established public relations goal.

Clearly, the most sensitive, even difficult step in this problem- solving sequence is message preparation. At ther same time, it's your opportunity to write something that will change somebody's opinion, and that is a really satisfying experience.

First, your message must stick to its knitting and not ramble. Address the inaccuracy, misconception, untruth or rumor clearly and in a believable and as compelling a manner as possible. Remember what it must do if the public relations program is to be successful - alter, change or reinforce what a lot of people believe. And that is a big job and a big responsibility.

If the message is the bullet, your "beasts of burden" are the gun, the means by which your communications tactics carry your message to the eyes and ears of members of the target audience.

And what a list of tactics offer themselves to you. Everything from open houses, feature articles, press releases and speeches to personal contacts, broadcast appearances, newspaper interviews and so many more.

Your measuring stick for each tactic is, does it have a proven track record for reaching people like those who make up your target audience?

So, you will get antsy and wonder if you're making any headway with your new public relations program. Best way to tell is to monitor target audience perceptions all over again. Use questions similar to your first monitoring session.

Big difference this time, however. Now, you need to see indications that perceptions are being altered as a result of your corrective message.

If you want to speed things up, you can always add a few more tactics to the mix, AND increase some of their frequencies. The message should also be re-evaluated for the strength and persuasiveness of its underlying facts, as well as impact and clarity.

Yes, you may believe you "don't need no stinking PR," but there's no denying that people in your area behave like everyone else - they take actions based on their perception of the facts they hear about you and your operation. So, you must deal promptly and effectively with those perceptions by doing what is necessary to reach them.

And what that means is, in your own best interest, you must persuade many of your stakeholders to your way of thinking, thus moving them to take actions that lead to the success of your organization.

Find Out If There Are Sexual Predators Nearby Before You Buy A Home or Property!

When looking for a new home or property, buyers ask many questions. Typical questions might be about the history of the property, property tax amounts, the school system, proximity to medical facilities, shopping malls, etc. Of course these details are important but fall short of getting all the information necessary to make an informed purchase.

We all like to think that we live in a perfect world and that our new neighbors will be just great in the location we've selected for our new home! It might even look like paradise, making it all the more tempting to view it as such! You might have heard wonderful things from friends and family about the new location you've selected. Chances are these wonderful things are true and you'll be very happy. Nevertheless, you might want to ask just one more question when considering buying a home or property in any location..."Are there sexual predators nearby?"

The answer is closer than you think! Information about sexual predators is public and easily obtained. Before you buy a home or property contact State or Local law enforcement for a list of area sexual predators and remember to get updates often even after you move. Many cities and towns have this information online, complete with photos and addresses of offenders. If you don't have online access or don't know how to contact law enforcement, ask your real estate professional to assist you!

TiVo: An Introduction for the Few Who Dont Know Yet

TiVo will change your life... for the better. Plain and simple: record shows by telling TiVo to record them (not when, what channel, how long, etc.), record all new episodes of X, record all movies w/ so-and-so in them, etc.

    High Points:

Most people know the basics of the concept. Here's the low-down on the things I'm asked most...

    1. You can record one thing and watch something else already recorded.

    2. You can get a dual tuner TiVo, but you'll need two SEPARATE feeds to the TiVo (i.e., two lines from your satellite dish). Then you can record 2 things at once or watch one/record another. These are more expensive, but you can get a DirecTiVo w/ dual tuner cheaper and then the monthly TiVo fee is about half normal.

    3. Pause live TV - if you don't realize the value of this, I can't explain it. :)

TiVo has many different versions which all some slight variations. If you want to go beyond 'average guy' level, check out this forum.

    Comparison to ReplayTV:

TiVo seems to have a better interface from what I've seen and what others have said. It's easier to use. However, ReplayTV is more easily hackable - you can access it from the web and the PC easier to convert/archive shows, etc. I have a DVD recorder for this which is another post for another time.

Both can be made to do mostly the same things, but you get the idea.

    My Suggestion

I recommend the DirecTiVo Hughes HDVR2 (dual tuner) w/ the Triple LNB dish (this is the oval dish w/ 4 lines from it and it's HDTV ready). It's got the satellite converter box built in so it's only one box to deal w/, the TiVo monthly fee is less and it's dual tuner.

This model isn't as hackable as some TiVo's, but it can do some and if you want to go beyond the basics than you probably haven't read this far.

    Sodomy

Sodomy is against the law, yet goes on every day across our nation. The vice of buggery is so pervasive in certain regions of our country that even heterosexuals in our population are a risk of contracting AIDS. The human anatomy was not set up for a homo sapiens male penis to enter the rectum of another male; it is not equipped for that function. In Washington D.C. the vice of buggery is so common in the halls of Congress, that it is nearly impossible to tell who has the moral character to lead. Sodomy is against our laws. If we allow Gay Marriage as they have now in the fourth country in the World; Canada recently, then we must first make sodomy legal. Otherwise male homosexuals will be getting married, but not allowed to practice their favorite vice of buggery.

So often government regulators, staffers and politicians will tell us if you do not like the law, change it but "DO NOT" break it. Okay then, fine, but if that is the way we do things in our nation, then they too must follow the laws. Anyone who is suspected of buggery and breaking our sodomy laws, has no right to work for those agencies or officials, who make the law, administer the law or monitor the law. Fair is fair.

If those who suffer psychological issues or sexual problems of this nature, we must either get them help or terminate them from positions where they may also break laws of abuses of power. Indeed, if they cannot seem to follow our laws here, perhaps trips to Canada maybe possible, so they can practice sticking their penis up another man's rectum where it is perfectly legal and a respected practice. We need those who are in charge to follow the law and be of high moral character and if for some reason they cannot handle that, then maybe they should move to Canada or bring about legislation so they can continue their practice of buggery without breaking the law, think on this.

How to Save Money on Training

    1) Use a live instructor. Adults learn best by doing, practicing, and experiencing. Effective instructors customize their programs to meet people's needs, provide counsel on individual challenges, and respond to questions. Videos, CDs, and E-learning are seldom effective for primary learning. Since the greatest cost of learning is the payroll cost of the participants, you want to make sure the program delivers results.

    2) Hire external experts. They can speak candidly about crucial issues related to complex work skills. They are free of prior encounters with your staff. And they bring a fresh, outside perspective based on a worldwide view (instead of an internal one). Those who specialize in one skill area have developed extensive knowledge. Ideally, choose one who has written books or published articles.

    3) Include accountability. Work with the instructor to develop a review and reminder process. Plan follow-up sessions to check on progress applying new techniques. Ask your staff to select one change that they plan to make and describe how they will apply it. Then monitor the application of changes being made. Include learning as a dimension in performance reviews.

    4) Support learning. If you're the boss, set an example of active learning. Attend the workshop. Then use what you learned. Encourage others to apply the new skills and reward those who make a special effort to do so. Also, recommend articles, books, and other materials that support the training program. Create a work culture that recognizes learning as the key to excellence.

    5) Buy smart. Match the type of program with desired skills. Use employees for proprietary operations, routine procedures, and high volume (more than 50 sessions/year) tutorials. Select programs that teach skills required to meet company goals. Buy programs that show practical techniques (instead of facts and trivia) delivered by experts who use what they teach.

    Job Stress Management Tips

Today's workplace produces plenty of stress. Life's little hassles mount up until you say to yourself, "If one more thing goes wrong today, I'll explode." Don't reach for the aspirin bottle, try these stress management tips.

Can we eliminate the stressors of modern work life? No. The trick is learning how to manage the stress versus being overwhelmed by it. Here are seven stress management tips

    Know the enemy.
What, exactly, is stressing you out? Is it your job? Your home life? Your relationships? Without knowing the root of the problem, you are unlikely to resolve it.

    Share the load.
Delegate whenever possible. Don't fall into the trap of thinking you are the only person who can do the job right. Your coworkers and boss might start to buy into that concept as well.

    Get a fresh outlook.
Whoops! I made a mistake. Okay. The world is not going to come to an end. Stress often comes from taking yourself and the job too seriously.

    Be a kid again?play.
Put your job concerns aside for five minutes and concentrate on something of fun. Use your break time to work a crossword puzzle, play a quick game of Frisbee, listen to some good music, etc. A few minutes spent playing brings renewed energy to the job.

    Let go.
Recognize the difference between the things you can control and the things you cannot. Make a list of these two categories. Stop stressing about the things in your job you have no control over.

    Develop a tough skin.
Try not to personalize any criticism you receive. Look at negative comments as constructive criticism that allows you to improve your work.

    Don't make work your life.
Job stress builds when our minds are constantly focused on work. Strive for balance in your life. Make time for family, friends, hobbies and, most importantly, fun.

You man need to giveyour job the heave-ho. You know it's time to quit when:

  • You've tried all the appropriate channels and methods for resolving your situation, to no avail.
  • You are not challenged and so bored that you hate to go to work every day.
  • Your boss is intimidating, disrespectful or demeaning to you.
  • Stress is a fact of life, but it need not be a way of life. Every job has stress. It is an inevitable consequence of living and working with others. Effective stress managers know how to reduce the harmful effects while retaining the energy and creativity needed to work and live in a stressful environment.

The Importance Of A Proper Correction

There are headstrong dogs that know too well that a verbal "no" from you is the worst that they're gonna get and this will quickly lead to them ignoring the handler. In the wild when one of the pack is out of line, he is corrected by the Alpha. Now if the dog knows what the correction is, then that is all and good, but seeing people correct their dog and the dog not being familiar with the correction and its purpose troubles me.

This is why I would prefer to teach the correction to the dog while teaching the heel command while walking on leash. If taught properly, the dog will quickly learn to associate undesirable as well as desirable heeling behavior. We must remember, at a young age, our dogs do not know what a negative behavior is. What they learn to be negative behavior, is what we instill in them. Usually our idea of negative behavior is the inability for the dog to perform the desired learned task, thus resulting in some sort of correction whether it be verbal or some other kind.

Top trainers will tell you to find what works best for your dog. No dog is the same, and while one may be very subject to verbalizing, another maybe of a more stubborn breed needing the actual physical contact to help achieve the desired result.

Personally I am now at the point with my dog where verbalizing my unhappiness with him will attain the desired result. My dog is a Lab, and being of a more placid breed, he is not head strong and he can be effected quite easily by rough treatment. However there are even times today when He will be distracted by something to the point where a firm correction is needed to retain his attention.

Adam Catz, is a Trainer working in the U.S. and he has written a book specifically dealing with aspects of dog training/behavior modification. He is a big advocate fore "tough love" and although I do not agree with some of his methods, he is very popular and has helped a lot of dog owners with problems that they were having with their dogs.

    15 Good Programming Habits

    1. Before sitting down for coding, you must have formal or a paper-napkin design of the solution to be coded. Never start coding without any design unless the code is trivial one.

    2. Good code documentation is as important as good knowledge of a programming language. Write brief logic for each major block of your code as comments in source code file itself. Its good to mention creation and modification dates of your program along-with why modification was required.

    3. Maintaining versions of your program is another important task. Some present-day programming tools already have a built-in version management. Whenever you make any change to your program, they save its copy as .bak file.

My approach is to maintain 3 versions of a program. Say, I have a file program.c which is used by other project team members also. I copy this file as program.c.old as backup and make another copy as program.c.wrk where I do modifications. When modifications are successfully compiled, replace program.c with .wrk file.

You can also append a date or some explanation phrase to your program versions like program260505.c or programReadFnWrking.c .

    4. If your project contains multiple source files then maintain a README file stating purpose of each source files, data files, intermediate and log files (if any). You may also mention the compilation and execution steps.

    5. Ever wondered why your IF statement is not working as it should do. May be your are using single equal i.e. "=" instead of "==" in the condition check. A good approach is to write condition in reverse order. So, your condition should read something like this:

if ( 10==i) ....So, if you put single equal sign by mistake then it will be detected at compilation time only as an error.

    6. While using loops and conditional statements, always first put closing braces corresponding opening braces and then write the inner statements i.e.

    1) for(int i=0;i

    Motherboard Basics

A recent Tech Tip covered the basics of selecting a computer case and made mention of the various sizes that correspond to motherboards of different form factors. A few people wrote in expressing interest in understanding more about the basics of motherboards, and that's exactly what this Tech Tip intends to address.

A motherboard, also known as a main board, is the primary circuit board inside of a computer, and is where the central processing unit (CPU), memory, expansion slots, drives, and other peripheral devices are connected. The circuitry on a motherboard facilitates the communication between all of the devices in the computer, making them as critical to a system's performance as items such as the CPU or memory.

The core circuitry of a motherboard is referred to as its chipset, and generally the manufacturer of the motherboard is not the manufacturer of the chipset. Intel does produce motherboards with their own chipsets, but buying a motherboard brand such as Gigabyte, Biostar, and ASUS means getting a board with either a VIA, Nvidia, SIS, or Intel brand chipset.

    1. Form Factor

The different basic shapes and sizes of motherboards are categorized as form factors. There are several standard form factors available, but some of the more common ones found in desktop computers include:(http://www.formfactors.org/developer/specs/atx2_2.pdf), ATX (http://www.formfactors.org/developer/specs/matxspe1.2.pdf), Micro ATX (mATX) (http://www.formfactors.org/developer/specs/FlexATXaddn1_0.pdf) FlexATX (http://www.via.com.tw/en/initiatives/spearhead/mini-itx/) and Mini-ITX

The basic sizes of each are as follows:

    * ATX: 12" x 9.6" (305mm x 244mm)

    * Micro ATX: 9.6" x 9.6" (244mm x 244mm)

    * FlexATX: 9.0" x 7.5" (229mm x 191mm)

    * Mini ITX: 6.7" x 6.7" (170mm x 170mm)

ATX and mATX are by far the most popular motherboard sizes for desktop computers, and as seen in the list above, are also some of the largest. More real estate on a motherboard allows for greater expansion possibilities and extra features, which make the use of these boards more flexible. A Mini-ITX board may feature just one slot for memory and one slot for an expansion card, while a typical ATX board may feature 4 memory slots and six slots for expansion cards.

Each form factor has its own niche that it fits into, from workstations and gaming systems for larger boards to media centers and in-car computers for smaller boards. There is definitely overlap between the potential applications of each form factor, and other features and capabilities will also influence the targeted use.

    2. CPU Socket

The major processor manufacturers, AMD and Intel, are constantly waging a battle to offer the fastest, most powerful processors available. Getting more speed and performance out of a relatively small chip generally requires a change to the physical dimensions as each new generation of processor is released. Therefore, motherboards need to evolve at the same pace in order to accept the new CPUs.

Back in the day, AMD and Intel processors shared a common CPU socket, but those days were short lived. AMD and Intel have since been traveling down their own, relatively parallel, paths of performance and speed increases, while using different designs. Selecting a motherboard for a modern AMD processor eliminates the use of any Intel processor, and vice versa.

AMD's current offering for desktop processors includes the Athlon 64, which is available in Socket 939 and Socket 754 formats. The number in the names represents the number of pins present on the backside of the CPU that connect to the motherboard's socket. The Socket 939 Athlon 64 therefore has a staggering array of nine hundred and thirty nine tiny pins to match up with the motherboard's socket. The Chaintech VNF4 Ultra is an example of a Socket 939 motherboard based on Nvidia's NForce4 Ultra chipset technology. In addition to these two sockets, many AMD processors, including Athlon XPs, Semprons, and Durons, share the Socket A format, also known as Socket 462 thanks to it having 462 pins for connecting to a motherboard.Socket adapters

Intel's latest offering for their Pentium 4 and Celeron processors, LGA 775, doesn't have pins at all and basically swaps the pins to the motherboard for the socket. Perhaps this design move puts the burden of bent pin warranty claims on someone else, but it is fairly unique. The Biostar P4M80-M7 is an example of an LGA 775 motherboard based on the VIA P4M800 chipset. Other Intel processors still on the market utilize the Socket 478 format for Pentium 4 and Celeron processors.

Although most motherboards support just one CPU socket, some applications benefit from having more than one processor to tackle the tasks at hand. Servers and high end workstations are two examples where a dual processor system, such as could be run on the Tyan Thunder i7500 motherboard, might make light work of more advanced applications.

    3. Components

'Components' is a fairly vague term to describe this section, but the items to be covered are fairly diverse. Computer systems all use memory, storage devices, and power supplies, but among the many differences motherboards have is the type and quantity of connections for these components.

Most modern systems use DDR memory, but DDR-2 memory is becoming more common and will eventually become the standard. Although some boards provide slots for both types of memory, it is generally the case that either one or the other technology is supported. Besides operating differently, the physical difference of DDR having 184 pins and DDR-2 having 240 pins prevents them from being interchangeable. Going forward, users will have to decide whether they want to jump on the new technology bandwagon when selecting a motherboard, or to try to continue using their existing DDR for as long as possible. Regardless of technology, most motherboards come with 2 to 4 slots for memory, although as mentioned, Mini-ITX boards may just offer 1 slot.

Hard drive technology is changing too, as mentioned in the Tech Tip comparing SATA to ATA hard drives. Most motherboards over the past few years have offered two ATA connections, which could support up to 4 drives. With SATA becoming more popular, some boards now offer a mix of ATA and SATA connections, while others have abandoned ATA all together, and instead offer multiple SATA connections which only support one drive each. In addition to type and quantity, motherboards can also offer choices in hard drive capabilities by integrating RAID controllers onboard, as found on the ASUS K8V SE Deluxe.

As systems become more advanced, they many times impose special power requirements to keep them running smoothly. Most motherboards feature the typical 20 pin ATX power connector, while some server boards may have a 24 pin connection in its place. Motherboards for AMD Athlon 64 and Pentium 4 processors will have a second power connection located in close proximity to the CPU socket for providing the extra power that today's high end processors demand. This special 4 pin connection isn't found on every AMD Socket A motherboard, but it will most definitely be located on an AMD Socket 939 motherboard. Power supplies have been including this special connection for years, but for those upgrading an old system with a new motherboard, the power supply may be just one more item that has to be upgraded as well.

    4. Extra Features

Many motherboards now include features onboard that were once only available as expansion cards to be purchased separately. A typical motherboard will now include stereo sound capabilities, a 10/100 LAN connection, and a few USB 2.0 ports on the back panel connection. Depending on the budget and needs of the end user, many motherboards may also include other convenient features such as integrated Firewire ports, VGA connections, and onboard RAID controllers.

    Motherboards Extra Features

Although many of these items may be added later with expansion cards, if you know you want them upfront, a bit of installation hassle and expense can be eliminated by finding a board with just about everything you want included. That said, there aren't many choices of onboard components, so it's a case of take it or leave it. For example, you may want stereo sound included, but find most motherboards offer 5 channel, where you would prefer 8 channel. In that case, it may be a good thing that motherboards include expansion slots to add the sound card of your choice.

    5. Expansion Slots

A motherboard typically provides at least one slot for the installation of a graphics card and a few slots for expanding the capabilities of the system in other areas.

Graphics cards are available in PCI, AGP, and now PCI Express formats, and matching a motherboard to the appropriate card is a key step. Most motherboards released over the past few years include an AGP slot, and the new wave of motherboards are now starting to feature PCI Express slots for graphics card installation.

PCI slots are found on most motherboards, but aremuch slower than AGP and PCI Express slots, so they are not the optimal choice for graphics. ATX motherboards may typically feature four to five PCI slots, and although they could be used for secondary display graphics cards, more common applications include sound cards, network cards, RAID controllers, TV tuners, modems, and USB/Firewire controllers. Considering that many of these items are now included onboard, having multiple PCI slots isn't quite as important as it used to be.

    6. Style

With enthusiasts adding windows and special lighting effects to just about every feature of a computer, why should the motherboard be left out of the action? Long gone are the days of the stereotypical green PCB with white connectors, and now most boards feature a vibrantly colored PCB and a rainbow of colors on expansion slots, memory slots, drive connectors, and so on.

For example, if someone was undecided on a mATX board for their Socket 754 AMD Athlon 64, style might be the deciding factor. The Chaintech MK8M800 and the Biostar K8VGA-M-N are similar boards featuring the VIA K8M800 chipset and prices under $70. The golden PCB with black and white features of the Chaintech board may appeal to some, while the red, white, blue, and yellow of the Biostar may sway others.

In general, a particular model is only available in one color scheme, and many manufacturers use the same theme across their entire current line up. As an example, the Biostar board for AMD Athlon 64 processors above features the same basic style as this Biostar board for the new Pentium LGA 775 processors. In addition to coloring, some manufacturers will include LED lighting on chipset cooling fans, or accessorize motherboards with matching cables to complete the unique looks of the board.

Some people may scoff at colors being included in the list of key features on motherboards, but there will be some that shop for style first, and then performance.

    Final Words

There are many factors to address in selecting a motherboard, and this Tech Tip really just scratched the surface of the basic choices that may need to be considered. Much more technical decisions may need to be made by the advanced user, but covering the six basic areas discussed above is a good start for users of any level.

House Plans - Where To Start

You have found the perfect lot on which to build your new home. Now you have an abundance of decisions to make. Where will the house sit on the lot? You will have to decide this based on the total square footage of the house. What kind of features are you hoping to have. These are the things to consider, storage, a laundry room, a home office, a bathroom downstairs, a full bath upstairs, and a family room.

Consider the future? Are you just starting out and planning a family? Do you need a guestroom for visitors? Flexible house plans are probably the best option for you. You don't want your house to end being too big in the future. If it starts getting small, make sure you allow for expansion if necessary, and make sure it is according to your local zoning laws.

How does the house plan you have chosen fit on the lot? If the lot is deep and narrow you don't want a shallow and wide house plan. Where will you place the house so that you get the maximum exposure to sunlight in the morning and in the evening? Make sure the windows are where they are supposed to be.

Check the zoning laws where you are building your house. There may be a limit in the height of the house or on what percentage of space your house can take up on the lot. Be open to suggestions. You can go with a pre-drawn plan or a custom plan that is drawn to your specifications. Another important item is how water drains off of your property. You would want to build the house on the rise of a hill rather than at its base. At the base the run off could do damage to the house.

When thinking about your house in general, does the house style fit in with the neighborhood? You wouldn't put a large Victorian house in a neighborhood that had ranch style homes and vice versa. Find out if there is an agreement with your city or town regarding the type of houses that is acceptable for that area. The size of the house is important. If it is too large or too small it will stick out like a sore thumb.

Will a lot of changes have to be made? There will be changes at some point to add a garage or change the size or shape of a room is fairly easy but you had better be prepared to pay a lot more for custom plans.

When you are thinking of the rooms determine what percentage of total square footage will this room take u p. If the master suite takes up twenty percent of total space is okay if you are also going to use some of that space for a reading area. If not consider a plan with a smaller bedroom. In order to determine the total space of any room you multiply the length times the width and divide that by the total square footage of the home.

You may want a dishwasher or an island in the center of your kitchen but sometimes you have to do a trade off. For example, if you want a dishwasher but will have to lose some cabinet space you must decide which is more important cabinet space or the dishwasher. The colors inside the house are most definitely important. If you want each room to have its own color the best plan for you would be a closed plan which would create separate individual rooms. If you are going to have a solid color throughout an open floor plan might work for you.

If you want the space consider planning a room switch. A room that is now being planned as an office can become a guestroom or a nursery. An extra bedroom could be come a work out room or a family room/library. If you are building a garage consider adding an extra bay and making that a workbench or a potting bench. Once you figure all of this out and you have the plans all set you can if you haven't already choose a lot. With an organized search you could find a plan that comes very close to your ideal home. Once you get the plan you can make any necessary last minute changes.

Building a home is probably the most complicated decision you will ever make. The plan for your new home can be either custom or pre-drawn. Custom plans are more expensive but the expense of pre-drawn plans could be as well if you request any modifications to them. Check with your city or town for their zoning laws. You will hopefully be in your new home for long time so make it what you want it. Enjoy your new home.

Personal Journaling - Strategies To Make It Easy

Recently I was watching the Oprah show and it was about doing something really great in someones life. Was it buying them a special gift? Or taking them out? Not really.

It was about saying something really special to them. Telling a child how beautiful they are. Telling someone you love how you appreciate their beauty, how you love spending your life with them.

Comments like these last for that person and makes an "imprint" on them for the rest of their life. Especially to children.

When I was a child my mother had an album for me, you know the magnetic kind. But she did something different....

She wrote words of love on the pages.

I remember sitting and looking at my album over and over at the pen on those pages, know how much she loved me because I read those words over and over.

They also say, "Children live what they learn."

    Isn't that so true?

We all know as scrapbookers how important journaling is to our albums, but alot of us get stuck with what to say.

Sometimes we feel like robots writing down, the place time, etc.

Next time you sit down to journal remember that your child will read your words over and over. And how much your love will be conveyed to them.

You don't need to write a long story about your day to the beach. Even simple statements can show your child how you loved your day with them.

Personal journaling is exactly that. Your own personal story about your time with your child.

Learn how to convey your true self to your child. Honour your day with your handwriting, and your child will read it over and over again like I did as a child.

    Enjoy journaling for your baby!

Vera Raposo has been giving away free baby scrapbooking tips since 2003. With 3 children of her own she realizes the importance of remembering your history with scrapbooking. Vera is now sharing some of her fun tips here. http://www.scrapbooking-baby-magazine.com/free-clipart.html

Stop Compulsive Gambling Addiction With Education

Through proper education, society can develop programs to stop compulsive gambling addiction before it gets out of control. It's unfortunate that people are willing to educate themselves only after they have been negatively affected by gambling. In most situations the damage has been done.

When most people think of education they think of schools and books. When in reality every day we are educating ourselves about life from the time we get up. To Learn about compulsive gamblers all we need to do is observe their patterns. Breaking the patterns will help in the recovery process. All the signs are there, all we have to do is face the truth. You start to ask yourself more and more questions. What are we going to do? We are going to find all the resources available and apply them to our situation. Through this knowledge we will help to accerlate the recovery. The first area to look at is your understanding of what you are going through. It dose not matter if you are the compulsive gambler, friend of the compulsive gambler or related to the compulsive gambler. Your life has been affected. It's now time to focus. Educating yourself on compulsive gambling addiction will help you to plan for your future. You can have a wonderful future.

It's first important to understand the definitions of compulsive, gambling and addiction. Through knowledge you will gain a better understanding of compulsive gambling addiction and find new alternative ways to treat it.

Compulsive is an uncontrollable desire to do something.

Gambling is the wagering of money where the end result is uncertain and the individual is willing to take a chance.

Addiction is a craving that develops into a dependency to repeat a certain behavior over and over with out regard for the outcome.

Combine these three words and you have an uncontrollable desire to gamble where the outcome is uncertain that develops into a dependency.

It's unfortunate but most people can not tell that they have an addiction until they have developed a self destructive behavior that has negatively affected their life.

What causes a person to have a compulsive gambling addiction? No one knows for sure, but there are many similarities in the type of individual that have becomes addicted. If we can understand the type personality that is more susceptible to addiction, then we can at least safe guard ourselves. For example it's an established fact that children of alcoholics have greater chance of becoming an alcoholic. Since there has been significant growth in the gambling industry more and more people have developed a compulsive gambling addiction.

Gambling is a common practice all over the world. It's believed that gambling dates back to the ancient civilizations where people would gather to take a chance even though the odds were against them.

People who are close to you, who have developed a compulsive gambling addiction will not show signs until a majority of their resources have been depleted. However these people exhibited negative social behavior inside the gambling establishments.

The gambling establishments are not regulated by law to stop people from recklessly throwing away their money. Even though these places know what they are doing to people, they recklessly destroy people's lives for profits.

The gambling establishments have seen gamblers stay up for two days straight gambling and have not turned them off. They have allowed these individuals and other to max out their credit cards. No one did anything to help them. A bar is required by law to turn someone off if they appear to be drunk. Gambling establishment's can also identify people who are in trouble. I have taken the opportunity to interview employees at gambling establishments. The employees all stated that they could tell who had a compulsive gambling addiction based on their repetitive behavior patterns. For example they would continuously go back and forth to the cash machine, they are there at all hours of the day and night when rational people would be sleeping, been seen in the same clothes for more then two days and there are many more signs. Why doesn't somebody do something about it?

When compulsive gamblers go out to the gambling establishments with friends or family they appear very conservative when they gamble at first. By the end of the night all the signs are there, but no one is paying any attention. A few signs are seeing them frequently go to the cash machine, not ready to leave when you are and they continually tell you that their luck is going to change with just one more bet.

You can find more information at I Stopped Gambling So Can You: http://www.istoppedgambling.com/

Education is the key and increasing your knowledge will enable you to deal with your particular situation.

Mr. Keith believes there are many alternatives to aid in the recovery of a gambling addiction verses a twelve step program. A large percentage of his emails were from compulsive gamblers looking for an alternative to Gamblers Anonymous and twelve step programs. Gamblers Anonymous also helps a significant number of people each year but there is a large percentage that does not stay. These are the people Mr. Keith is hoping to reach.

    Link Building Services

In today scenario when we talk about Search Engine Optimization, we also talk about one of the most important aspect of SEO, which is Link Building. But there are different types, aspects and limitations of Link Building, which would be discussed now under

1.Types of Link Building: I would be explaining this factor in a more understandable manner with giving some examples with Site1, Site2 and Site3.

a)One Way Linking: One Way Linking is a type of Link Building where a site links to another site without getting a link back

Example: Site1 links to Site2One of the best ways of generating One Way Links is Directory Submissions

You can submit your site in different free directories like Dmoz, Yahoo Directory (Paid Also) and many others

    Limitations of One-Way Linking

One of the most desired limitations of One-Way linking is time Consuming process and the confirmation of getting listed in Directories is not fixed

b)Two Way Linking: Mostly known as Reciprocal Linking, this is one of the most effective and fast method of creating quality incoming links towards your site. Two Way Linking is process of exchanging links between 2 sites of similar theme. (As per latest Google Semantic Indexing)

Example: Site1 Links to Site2 and in return Site2 Links back to Site1The best method to create Reciprocal Links is to contact theme based sites, which you can think can be involved in your Linking Parameters and ask them for a Link Exchange with your site

There are no limitations in this type of Linking as this is one of the most effective and fastest methods of creating incoming traffic to your site.

c)Three Way Linking: This can also be termed as a better way of obtaining One-Way Links to your site, as in this process there is One-Way and Reciprocal Linking Involved

Example: Site1 Links to Site2, But in place Site2 Links Site1 on Site3

Aspects to be Looked Before While creating Links

1.The partner's site Page Rank of the page where he has placed your link

2.Whether the page where your link has been placed is indexed in Search Engines or not

3.One most important factor is the theme of the site. Eg: If you have a site related to Web Design you can exchange links with site related to shoes or gifts, you should link with sites related to Web only

Splitting Hairs - What Can You Do About Split Ends

Isn't it a shame when you have to worry about coveringsplit ends (or trichoptlosis)-the bane of every self-respecting woman's life! They happen when the protectivecuticle has been stripped away from the ends of hairfibers. Split ends are more likely to develop in dry orbrittle hair, and typical causes of damage includeexcessive dying or vigorous brushing.

Once the hair cuticle is removed, it is impossible toreplace. Typically, the hair splits into two or threestrands, and can be as long or two to three centimeters inlength. The best treatment is to cut off the split end ofthe damaged fiber.

But you don't necessarily have to go to the salon everyweek to keep your split ends in check. Back in the sixtiesand seventies, women used to burn off their split ends!Sure that's a little excessive. And there are easier waysto get rid of those dead ends before they split further...do-it-yourself hair trims.

These do-it-yourself trimming tips are for women who arehappy with their hair; for those who don't need a restyle, but simply want to freshen things up with a 'homegrown'sort of look. If you are in any doubt, leave it for theprofessionals!

    To Remove Split Ends:

    * Take small sections of hair and carefully twist them in agentle downward motion. Any split ends will automatically stick out.

    * Carefully snip into the twist with sharp scissors. Don'tcut right through; just cut into the thickness to removethe damaged cuticles and give a natural layered effect.

    * Be careful to cut roughly the same amount from eachtwist.Remember, sometimes the simplest, and least expensive, ideas are the best. So get trimming! You'll not only save abundle but also time that will ease your life.

Ten Benefits of Having a Relationship Coach

As a Master Certified Relationship Coach, I work with singles to help them attract a great match and with couples to help put their relationships back on track. I hear great feedback from my clients about the value of coaching.

I think everyone can benefit from having a coach -- coaching can contribute that much to your life. Which is why you may be interested in seeing what some of my clients have said about the value they received from coaching.

Here is a list of the top ten benefits my clients say they have derived from having a relationship coach:

    1. "I finally met my match."

Clients repeatedly credit having a relationship coach for their ability to finally meet their match, a partner unlike any other they have had. In this relationship -- in addition to attraction -- there is true compatibility in values, interests, and desire for personal growth.

    2. "I regained hope."

Thanks to coaching, clients regained hope in love, regained hope in meeting the right partner, regained hope in getting married, perhaps even having children. They understand they can be loved and that there is a right partner for them.

    3. "I never have to repeat that horrible pattern again."

Relationship coaching has helped people free themselves from unhealthy relationship patterns. These are the kinds of patterns where you end up with the same partner, only with a different face, over and over again.

    4. "I learned how to read people."

Coaching has helped clients learn to understand their own and others' motivations. It helped them learn how to clearly see people for who they are.

    5. "I finally know exactly how to date."

Clients credit relationship coaching for their newfound clarity about what to do and not to do when dating. They no longer have to worry about whether they are doing the right thing. They can now relax and be themselves.

    6. "I learned how to have great communication in a relationship."

Clients have learned how to create an environment where great communication happens. More than that, they never have to hold back, put up with something, or stuff their feelings. And neither do their partners.

    7. "I never have to worry about a broken heart out of the blue again."

Clients say they have learned how to avoid heartbreakers. They also say they have learned how to establish relationships where problems are handled long before they lead to heartbreak.

    8. "I learned how to deal with difficult situations in relationships."

Clients say that now instead of being afraid their relationship will go south after the "honeymoon" period, they know how to handle a relationship no matter what stage it's in.

    9. "I've seen an improvement in all my relationships."

Relationship coaching has helped clients improve all their relationships -- from coworkers, employees and bosses, to parents, siblings and children. The improved relationships make for a better, easier, more fulfilled life, which in turn improves the romantic relationships.

    10. "I can stand up for myself."

Clients say they have learned that personal strength, boundaries, and self respect make for better relationships. They have learned how to say no, mean it, and have the relationship be ok.

You deserve to have all of the benefits above. Although you can have any or even all of them without a coach, with the right relationship coach you can have them much faster and easier than you would otherwise.

And of course, as you know, I am a relationship coach. Email me and let me know how I can support you to have wonderful relationships.
